INVITATION TO A COMPLIMENTARY WEBINAR: IMPROVING PUBLIC SECTOR GOVERNANCE THROUGH FINANCIAL REPORTING

We are pleased to invite you to a complimentary webinar on Improving Public Sector Governance Through Financial Reporting. The webinar is a collaboration between MIA with The Certified Practising Accountant Australia (CPA) and ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA).

The public sector is a significant economic segment. Hence, effective and efficient operation of public sector is critical for economic growth in both developing and developed economies. Adequate levels of transparency and accountability as well as good financial and performance management are hallmarks of a well-performing public sector. Financial reporting plays an important role and the panel session will explore opportunities and challenges surrounding public sector financial reporting.

At the end of the session, members will be able to:

  • Understand how the effectiveness and efficiency of public sector operation is a critical element for economic growth;
  • Learn how adequate levels of transparency and accountability, and good financial and performance management are all hallmarks of a well-performing public sector; and
  • Gain insights on some of the opportunities and challenges that surround public sector financial reporting as it plays a huge role for improving public sector governance

The speakers of the webinar are as follows:

David Hardidge, Director – Technical and Treasury Products, Queensland Audit Office
David is the Director – Technical and Treasury Products in the Queensland Audit Office. His latest focus is on revenue (IFRS 15 and AASB 15), income for not-for-profits (AASB 1058), leases (IFRS 16 and AASB 16), and valuing public sector assets in the state and local government environments. He is also part of the Queensland Audit Office’s campaign to encourage focused financial reporting.

Mohd Redzuan Hasan, Deputy Accountant General (Operation), Accountant General Department of Malaysia
Mohd Redzuan has more than 30 years of experience serving in various government entities such as The Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia, Ministry of Finance, The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, and Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). Mohd Redzuan is a Chartered Accountant and a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He was appointed as MIA Council member in November 2019.

Le Thi Tuyet Nhung, Deputy General Director, Accounting and Auditing Policy Department (AAPD), Ministry of Finance, Vietnam
With over 21 years of experience working at the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Nhung is responsible for overseeing the regulation of auditing, including licensing and inspections, enforcement of auditing standards and other policy matters. Ms. Nhung is also a member of the Executive Board of Directors for AAPD. Currently, she is the Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam Association of Certified Public Accountants (VACPA). Ms. Nhung is also the Chairwoman of the Monitoring Committee of Vietnam in implementing the Mutual Recognition Agreement on Accountancy Services within ASEAN and she is a member of the ASEAN Chartered Professional Accountant Coordinating Committee (ACPACC). She holds CPA Vietnam and CPA Australia.

Ram Subramanian, Policy Adviser – Reporting, CPA Australia
Ram leverages his technical expertise to effectively communicate key messages in reporting to finance professionals and others with a stake in business and social enterprises. His key responsibilities include formulating policy positions and commenting on reporting developments, including input to developments in the not-for-profit sector. In his role, Ram is also involved in the provision of technical support to CPA Australia’s membership and other stakeholders, and representing CPA Australia in various forums.
