  • MIA PAIB Committee Members
  • Distinguished Speakers
  • Ladies & Gentlemen
  1. Good morning and welcome everyone to our fourth CFO Circle and the first to be held virtually. Today I am very pleased to introduce and welcome the new Chairman of MIA PAIB Committee, YBhg Datuk Bazlan Osman who was appointed as a council member by Ministry of Finance Malaysia on 1 December 2019. Datuk Bazlan has more than 25 years of experience as a CFO and Executive Director. He is currently the Non-Executive Chairman of GITN Sdn Bhd. He also holds independent director positions in several boards of companies in various industries. He was formerly an Executive Director of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM). His last position in TM was Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO). Datuk Bazlan is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK) and a Panel Member of ACCA, Malaysia Chapter.
  2. Our previous three CFO Circles were very successful in stimulating engagement and peer-to-peer sharing on high-level topics in a safe, secure and private environment. Today will be the same but via a virtual platform.
  3. Previously, the CFO Circles were themed around Transformational Leadership and Change Management; Digital Leadership; and Responsibilities and Liabilities of CFOs under the MACC (Amendment) Act 2018, focusing on the “adequate procedures” that organisations need to implement to reduce collective and personal liability risks and avoid punitive measures for non-compliance.
  4. Our strong collaborative ties with our stakeholders both local and global means that we have been able to bring in speakers such as Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad to share his experience with the CFOs.
  5. Today, we have an equally inspiring and experienced group who will be sharing as well as taking part in a panel and Q&A session. Thank you for joining us today: Mr Chen Li-Kai, Senior Partner in McKinsey; Encik Mustamir Mohamad, Group Chief Financial Officer of Sime Darby Berhad; Puan Khalijah Ismail, Group Financial Controller of Maybank Group; and Mr Chari TVT who served as a Group Financial Officer at Axiata Group Berhad.
  6. Our expert speakers will be talking about Strategies to Weather the COVID-19 Storm. 2020 will go down in history as perhaps the most turbulent time ever for economies and societies since the Great Depression of the 1930s. We are battling not just a pandemic but economic and social upheaval, as well as unprecedented volatility and risks. Despite having access to mega amounts of data, we are in a situation where we are grappling with not just the known knowns and known unknowns, but have to also make contingency plans for unknown knowns and unknown unknowns.
  7. As explained in the CFO Competency Framework issued by MIA in 2018, as navigators and integrators, CFOs are pivotal in helping to lead their organisations and people to safe harbour in the new normal. I am looking forward to learning more about the different routes undertaken by our speakers in navigating this crisis. I would also like to extend my thanks to Datuk Bazlan and the PAIB Committee members for selecting today’s topic and advising the MIA Professional Practices & Technical Team with today’s CFO Circle. Thank you!
