Good morning and thank you taking the time to join us today on this momentous occasion to launch the MIA-ACCA 2019 Business and Economic Outlook Report.

Today, as we celebrate the launch of this report, I would first like to take some time to acknowledge and recognise all accountants in Malaysia and around the world. You are professionals who serve as the backbone which provides critical insights and strategies to your organisations, you turn information into intelligence to create sustainable and healthy portfolios and you help shape the present and future success of your businesses from within. And you do all this while protecting the integrity of your organisations, its people and the customers that you serve. The scope of your profession highlights just how invaluable your role is in the development of the Malaysian economy.

Ladies and gentleman,
As the accounting profession plays such a prominent part in helping to shape the success of the economy, it is thus necessary for us to provide greater relevance for these professionals to share their views, insights and expertise with us. For this purpose, MIA and ACCA have embarked on a collaboration to develop a platform that brings together the collective views and knowledge sharing from the accounting and finance community.

Critical insights obtained through researches and surveys undertaken by both professional bodies aim to provide policy makers and top leaders with some form of reference as they build pathways to develop successful and financially viable businesses in today’s economic landscape.

Ladies and gentlemen,
As the national accountancy body of Malaysia, MIA is renowned for their reputation in promoting professional values and practices in line with global requirements of accounting standards through their extensive line of resources and top research reports.

What ACCA brings to this collaboration is a far-reaching network and expertise on a global level. We are uniquely positioned in over 180 countries and with a wide network of professional members, we have the capability to build a depository of insights and intelligence that encompasses the depth and diversity required to make the information relevant to people who matters. Our findings are shared across the world with standard setters, policy makers and regulators, influencing discussions that impact the future we endeavour to build.

Before I conclude, I would like to take this opportunity to thank MIA for all their efforts in helping to develop the accountancy profession that supports the growth of our nation and economy. The joint partnership between MIA and ACCA in producing this report was truly a synergistic one and we enthusiastically look forward to more of such initiatives over the next few years.

Our vision is that this inaugural joint report will be the first of more to come, that it will eventually become “the go-to” annual business and economic outlook findings for the accounting and finance professionals in Malaysia. It is our hope that these resources will help support our accountants in their role as partners and advisors to their businesses, corporations and the government.

Together with MIA, we will continue in our endeavour to bring you more insights that will help not only professional accountants but also, policy makers, educators and employers - so that we can work collectively as one nation to help shape a more robust and successful economy for Malaysia and our future generation.

Thank you.
