  • Ladies and Gentlemen

Good morning. On behalf of the Examination Committee of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), I am delighted to welcome all of you to the MIA QUALIFYING EXAMINATION GRADUATION CEREMONY 2018.

The MIA has been conducting the Qualifying Examination (QE) since 2003 as a platform to increase the number of high-quality accountancy professionals in Malaysia in order to support nation building. I am indeed pleased to report that 423 candidates have successfully completed the MIA QE since its inception.

As you are aware, there are two sittings a year, in March and September. Candidates are required to sit for four (4) papers namely Business and Company Law (BCL), Audit & Assurance Services (AUD), Advanced Financial Accounting & Reporting (AFAR), and Taxation. Like other professional examinations, the MIA QE is challenging and requires that candidates be both diligent and determined to get through it successfully.

This year, a total of 434 candidates sat for the MIA QE. 247 candidates sat March while 187 candidates sat in September 2018. From these 2 sittings, a total of 37 candidates have graduated. Shortly, they will be awarded the Certificate of Successful Completion of the MIA QE. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give them a round of applause.

I am happy to announce that 2 candidates in the March and September 2018 sitting passed with distinction in the Audit & Assurance Services paper. This is indeed a remarkable achievement. For the exams conducted in 2018, Business & Company Law, Audit & Assurance Services as well as TAX - recorded higher pass rates in the March sitting as compared to the results for the September 2018 sitting. Only the Advanced Financial Accounting & Reporting paper recorded a higher pass rate compared to the results in the March 2018 sitting.

Ladies and gentlemen,

It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to complete the MIA QE within the stipulated time frame while balancing family and career. In passing the MIA QE, you are one step closer to becoming a Chartered Accountant. Once you have obtained the minimum three (3) years relevant practical experience, you can apply for the MIA membership. Once your membership has been approved by the MIA, your journey as a Chartered Accountant begins.

Of course, earning the QE certificate is just the first step in a lifelong journey of excellence. As a chartered accountant, you will need to continuously keep abreast of the latest know-how, best practices and developments impacting the accountancy profession - all this is where the Malaysian Institute of Accountants can and will assist. I strongly encourage you to sign up for MIA membership in order to avail yourselves of the continuous learning opportunities and other benefits and privileges enjoyed by MIA members. MIA President Encik Salihin Abang will be explaining all these in his upcoming address.

On that note, congratulations once again to all our graduates and I wish you a joyous celebration with your family and a wonderful day ahead. Finally, we at MIA wish you an illustrious career as a Chartered Accountant. Most importantly, be ethical and full of integrity when carrying out your duties.

Thank you!
