GOVERNMENT IMPLEMENTS MANDATORY WORK FROM HOME DIRECTIVE FOR MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISORY STAFF UNDER THE CONDITIONAL MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER (CMCO)

Following the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, members are advised that the Government has tightened the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the state of Sabah, state of Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya in order to curb the spread of COVID-19, effective from 22 October 2020 until the end of CMCO.

According to the press release by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) on 21 October, all staff at management and supervisory level will be required to work from home from 22 October onwards until the end of the CMCO. A maximum of 10% of management staff (or a minimum of 1 management staff) who are involved in accounting, finance, management, legal work, planning and information, communication and technology (ICT) are allowed to work in the office for a maximum of 4 working hours (from 10 am to 2pm) for 3 days per week until the CMCO ends.

Under the latest directive, employees who are required to work in the office do not need to submit an application to the relevant authority for permission to commute to work. However, inter-district travel will continue to be barred in general during the CMCO. Employees who need to cross district borders for work will need to show their work pass or consent letter from their employer.

The strict CMCO-WFH measures are necessary to reduce the number of workers at premises in order to break the chain of COVID-19 infections being spread through workplace clusters. MIA appreciates the Government’s efforts to curb further spread of the COVID-19 infection through the strengthened CMCO measures and will extend full support on the compliance with the CMCO, while continuing to support our members and stakeholders. While awaiting further directives from the Government, MIA will continue to provide Counter services at our Head Quarters and all other services will be delivered online. A limited number of staff will be physically present at the MIA Head Quarters and the staff at the Sabah Regional Office will be working from home in compliance with the Government’s CMCO – WFH until the CMCO ends. All other Regional offices will comply and operate according to the requirements set by the respective state authorities.

MIA’s Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Webinars will continue as planned.

MIA will continue to closely monitor the situation, maintain close communication with the relevant authorities and our stakeholders, and will notify members of any future developments. MIA would like to advise all members to comply with the CMCO and to practice stringent health SOPs. We would also like to advise all our members who are employers to adhere to the relevant laws and regulations stipulated under the CMCO.
