DATE: 28/11/2019

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 NOVEMBER – CIMB Group Holdings Berhad (CIMB) continued with its winning streak to win the coveted Overall Excellence Platinum Award at the National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA) 2019 Awards Presentation Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur- a hat trick which we have not seen since 2010.

CIMB also won the following three awards at NACRA 2019:

  • Sustainabiity Reporting Award – Gold
  • Best Designed Annual Report Award – Silver
  • Industry Excellence Award for main board company in the Financial Services category

A total of 25 awards were presented along with 11 Certificates of Merit to the finalists in recognition of the excellent quality of their annual reports.

All awards were presented by Yang Berhormat Tuan Lim Guan Eng, Minister of Finance.

The prestigious NACRA awards were bestowed to organisations that demonstrated excellence in their financial and corporate reporting.

Guest of honour Yang Berhormat Tuan Lim Guan Eng, mentioned in his keynote address;
“Tonight’s event is not about who has the best cover, or who has the thickest report. On the contrary, we are celebrating something more fundamental than that. We are recognising those upholding the principles of competency, accountability and transparency. Integrity in business will always be profitable in the long run. Not only will it help to uphold the important social capital of trust, which is essential towards laying the foundation of rule of law as well as an orderly and trustworthy society, it is also good for business. “What you see is what you get” will make Malaysia proud once again that we are no longer a global kleptocracy, but instead a normal democracy taking our rightful place among the civilised community of nations”.

NACRA 2019 Organising Committee Chairman Ahmad Zahirudin Abdul Rahim said:
“NACRA’s theme, “Towards Accountability & Excellence”, underscores the vital role of annual reports in propagating transparency and enhancing integrity within the capital markets.Even in today’s world of instant information, an annual report remains a powerful tool to communicate a company’s strengths and strategies to key stakeholders”.

“At the Launch of NACRA 2019 in April this year, we announced that there would be a ‘New NACRA’ framework introduced for the year 2020 and beyond. With the ongoing changes in the current corporate reporting environment, the NACRA Committee saw the need to revamp the criteria and guidelines for future NACRA starting with NACRA 2020. The Committee is pleased to inform you that the new framework has been finalized. We are looking forward to a refreshed and renewed NACRA in 2020 and beyond with many more contenders vying for the highest recognition of their excellence in corporate reporting”.

Ahmad Zahirudin announced that this year saw an increase in participants with six new contenders vying for the prestigious awards. He hoped to see many more organisations participating in the coming years as winning a NACRA award gives one the bragging rights of having delivered the best annual report whilst strengthening the organisation’s brand and strength in corporate governance.

According to NACRA Adjudication Committee Chairperson Mr Stanley Teo, good reporting is about transparency and engagement. An annual report has become and remains a key document for businesses and their stakeholders as it summarises the financial position of the organisation, its key activities and, in some cases, sets out the strategic direction for the future.

“A good annual report is able to take the financial and non-financial information of an organisation and tell a clear, accessible story in a coherent way. By doing so, it has the potential to create greater public trust and confidence in the performance and prospects of the respective organisation,” he added.

NACRA is jointly organised by Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). NACRA was launched in 1990 with the aim to promote excellence in annual corporate reporting. With the theme, Towards Accountability and Excellence, NACRA recognises the need for greater transparency and accountability in corporate reporting.

NACRA is open to all companies incorporated or registered in Malaysia as well as the public sector and other organisations established in Malaysia.
