KUALA LUMPUR: Emphasising the theme of digital disruption and how this is transforming the accountancy profession, the MIA International Accountants Conference 2017 (MIA Conference 2017) successfully confirmed an attendance of 3,000 delegates from commerce and industry, public sector, public practice and academia. This reinforces its position as one of the largest gatherings of accountants in the world. The Conference is the flagship conference organised by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), the developer and regulator of the Malaysian accountancy profession.

The MIA conference is officiated by the Deputy Minister (Trade), Ministry of International Trade and Industry, YB Datuk Chua Tee Yong.

This year the theme of the MIA conference is “Expanding Horizons Be Future Relevant”, focusing especially on digital and technological disruption and transformation.

“In tune with this theme, our 16 sessions delve into the critical trends and developments affecting our members and delegates from all segments of the profession, ranging from digital disruption to technology integration, to macro geopolitical issues,” said MIA Chief Executive Officer Dr Nurmazilah Dato’ Mahzan.

Close to 60 top-notch speakers, both local and from around the world, will be sharing their thoughts and insights into the accountancy profession, focussing on key issues affecting the business environment today. These issues encompass tax opportunities and challenges in the digital economy, Impact of MFRS 15 on specific industries, cyber threats, mapping talent development for digital competency environment and many more.

Among the speakers are Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, YB Senator Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan, Bank Negara Malaysia Deputy Director, Islamic Banking and Takaful Department Dr. Hamim Syahrum Ahmad Mokthar, Professional Squash Player and eight-time World Champion Datuk Nicol David, The World Bank Lead Economist Dr Richard Record, Royal Malaysian Customs Department Director General Dato’ Sri Subromaniam Tholasy, Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd Group Chief Executive Officer Nazrin Hassan, among others.
