The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) marked its 50th Anniversary of its establishment on 30th September this year. To celebrate its Golden Anniversary, the MIA hosted the 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur here on its establishment date.

The celebration of MIA 50th Anniversary, themed, Integrity, Accountability and Trust, which are the core values and the foundation of the accountancy profession. This Golden Jubilee not only commemorates our legacy, but is a watershed to reassess and renew our commitment to our purpose, our legacy and the way forward as we strive to build a better profession and nation.

The dinner was graced by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-lah and Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja Permaisuri Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim.

The MIA has grown from strength to strength since its establishment on 30th September 1967. From a mere 1,619 Chartered Accountant Malaysia (CA (M)) members in 1980, the MIA currently has more than 34,000 accountants registered with the Institute. The number is still growing.

As the nation work towards greater progress with diversified economy, the MIA has played a crucial role in developing and strengthening the accountancy profession in Malaysia.

“MIA members have an impact in all segments of the economy and society, thus making a difference in public practice, large corporate and industry, small and medium enterprise, public sector and government, and education,” said MIA President Encik Salihin Abang during his Welcome Remarks.

“Our achievements have been made possible first and foremost through unity among our members, collaboration with our stakeholders, loyalty and diligence from MIA staff, and support from the government,” he explained.

According to the MIA 50th Anniversary Organising Committee Chairman and MIA Immediate Past President, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, celebrating the MIA 50th Anniversary is a means of giving back to its members, stakeholders and community.
