YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ranjit Ajit Singh Shares His Thoughts on “Trust”

The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) marks its 50th Anniversary of its establishment on 30th September this year. To celebrate its Golden Anniversary, the MIA has hosted two 50th Anniversary Commemorative Lectures, presented by iconic MIA members.

The final 50th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture features YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ranjit Ajit Singh, Chairman, Securities Commission Malaysia, who would be sharing his thoughts on the topic “Trust”.

The MIA President, Salihin Abang said the MIA’s 50th anniversary celebrations are centred on a journey towards the three core values of the accountancy profession – “Integrity, Accountability and Trust”.

“These visionary leaders of the profession, who presented the commemorative lectures, shed light on how accountants should strive to uphold these fundamental values and drive movements like sustainability and true value,” he said.

At the event, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ranjit Ajit Singh, was presented with an appreciation memento in the form of a glass sculpture designed and created by renowned artist and sculptor, Raja Azhar Idris. The MIA had specifically selected the designer and memento as part of the Institute’s efforts in supporting Malaysian artisans.

The first 50th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture, which was held on 10 April 2017 featured YBhg Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Group Chairman, Permodalan Nasional Berhad, who shared his personal experiences, thoughts and ideas on the topic “Integrity: The Game Changer”.

The second 50th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture, held on 22 May 2017 featured YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Mokhtar, Managing Director, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, who shared his thoughts on the topic “Accountability & Sustainability: The Role Of Accountants”.

In conjunction with the MIA 50th Anniversary Celebration, the Institute has lined-up a series of activities as follows:

  1. VIDEO RECORDING AND ESSAY COMPETITIONS
    The MIA organised a video recording from June 15th to July 31st 2017 and, an essay competition from July 1st to July 31st 2017. The video recording competition is targeted at tertiary students while the essay competition is targeted at upper secondary students. These competitions aim to gauge the students' interest in accountancy and to provide an avenue to express their creativity. The competitions also aim to instil noble values among the future generation and promote the English language.
  2. WATCH & WIN PROGRAMME
    A programme to create awareness and deeper understanding of the role, function and accomplishments of MIA among IHLs students.
  3. BACK TO SCHOOL PROGRAMME
    A programme designed for MIA members to visit schools and provide insights on the vast opportunities in the accountancy profession to Form Four/Five students.
  4. 50th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE LECTURES
    Three lectures by renowned local speakers. The speakers shared their experience, thoughts and ideas, centred on the MIA 50th Anniversary theme “Integrity, Accountability & Trust”.
  5. CLIMBING OF MOUNT KINABALU
    An expedition will be held from 24th to 26th September 2017 for MIA members, MIA stakeholders and MIA staff to conquer Southeast Asia’ highest peak.
  6. AN ANNIVERSAY DINNER to thank our stakeholders on 30th September 2017.
