  • Graduates of MIA QE Class of 2017,
  • Ladies and Gentlemen

Good Morning!

I am pleased to welcome all of you to the MIA QE Graduation Ceremony today.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As you know, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) has been conducting the QE since 2003, and today, we have more than 350 candidates that have successfully completed the MIA QE.

MIA QE candidates have the option to sit either in the March or September sittings in a year. Candidates are required to sit for four (4) papers namely Business and Company Law (BCL), Audit & Assurance Services (AUD), Advanced Financial Accounting & Reporting (AFAR), and Taxation.

This year, ladies and gentlemen a total of 450 candidates sat for the MIA QE. 278 candidates had sat in the September 2017 sitting while 172 candidates sat in the March 2017 sitting.

From these 2 examination sittings, a total of 29 candidates have passed and they will be awarded the Certificate of Successful Completion of the MIA QE.

I am happy to inform that 2 candidates in the March 2017 sitting have passed with distinction in the BCL and Taxation papers. In the September 2017 sitting, two candidates have passed with distinction in the Taxation paper. This morning, we would be recognising the two students who have achieved excellent results in the Business and Company Law (BCL) and Taxation papers.

In the March 2017 sitting, three papers namely BCL, AFAR as well as AUD - recorded higher pass rate compared to the results in the September 2017 sitting. In the September 2017 sitting, the Taxation paper - recorded higher pass rate compared to the results in the March 2017 sitting.

I do know it is no easy feat to pass the MIA QE while being in full-time employment. It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to complete the MIA QE within the stimulated time frame while balancing family and career.

So, WELL DONE! to those who have graduated.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

By graduating from the MIA QE, you are one step closer to becoming a Chartered Accountant. Once you have obtained the minimum three (3) years of relevant practical experience, you can apply for the MIA membership. Once your membership has been approved by the MIA, your journey as a Chartered Accountant begins.

As a chartered accountant, you will need to continuously keep abreast of the latest know-how and best practices that are taking place in the accountancy profession.

The core of our accountancy profession is trust and integrity, and that whatever we do, we must serve the wider interest of the community and keep their interest at heart.

On that note, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to once again congratulate the class of MIA QE 2017.

Thank you.
