PENANG: To provide financial assistance who were affected by the flood in Penang, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) contributed RM20,000 to four children welfare homes. They are Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal Seberang Perai Tengah (Sekolah Sinar Harapan), The Ramakrishna Ashrama, St. Joseph Home and The Shammah Home.

The funds were raised during a charity auction at the Shoot for the Moon! Up Close and Personal with World Champion session at the MIA International Accountants Conference 2017, which was held on 8 November 2017 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

During the Shoot for the Moon! Up Close and Personal with World Champion session, professional squash player and eight-times world champion Datuk Nicol David autographed a squash racquet, which was auctioned to the highest bidder. MIA matched the highest bid, hence amounting to RM20,000.

The session was not about the charity auction alone but rather the close ties that were made between the professional squash player and eight-times world champion Datuk Nicol David, conference delegates, guests and the MIA family.

The matching of the highest bid amount by MIA is a testament to its commitment towards raising awareness among accountancy professionals in the country to embrace social responsibility.

The MIA International Accountants Conference 2017, which was held on the 7th and 8th of November, had drawn close to 3,000 delegates and 65 top notch Malaysian and international speakers.

The MIA Conference was officiated by the Deputy Minister (Trade), Ministry of International Trade and Industry, YB Datuk Chua Tee Yong.
