National Award for Management Accounting (NAfMA)

The NAfMA Organising Committee is embarking on a rebranding exercise of the Award to revisit areas that could be further improved. In view of this exercise, NAfMA for 2012 would be combined and held in 2013.

Pn Anida Ishak, General Manager, Investor Relations & Management Reporting  receiving the Excellence Award
for Tenaga Nasional Berhad from the Guest of Honour, Y Bhg  Datuk Wan Selamah binti Wan Sulaiman,
Accountant General of Malaysia

Tenaga Nasional Berhad emerged as the Excellence Award winner of the National Award for Management Accounting (NAfMA) 2011, beating six other companies. Accountant General Datuk Wan Selamah Wan Sulaiman presented the awards at a grand dinner ceremony at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya on 6 December 2011.

Plus Expressways Berhad won the Best Practice Award in the public listed category while Shamawar Elekrika Sdn Bhd won in the SME category. The Practice Solution Award was won by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad in the public listed category, Hicom-Yamaha Manufacturing Malaysia Sdn Bhd in the.non-listed category. In the SME category, the Practice Solution Award was won by KEU Transweld Sdn Bhd and Shamawar Sdn Bhd.

The NAfMA awards recognise best practices in management accounting by companies in Malaysia that lead to value creation and excellent business performance. The NAfMA awards also aim to promote the application of management accounting techniques and systems within organisations in Malaysia.

Yeo Tek Ling, Chairman of the NAfMA Organising Committee said during his welcome speech: ‘We are proud that NAfMA’s unique assessment framework offers participating companies a chance to review their operations and see the value of management accounting tools and techniques.’

The NAfMA winners were assessed on eight criteria – leadership, management accounting information, resource management, customer / market focus, partnership management, value creation, business results and corporate social responsibility. These eight criteria are based on the management accounting concepts of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

The awarding bodies for NAfMA are CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) Malaysia Division and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). The working partners are CIMA-UiTM Asian Management Accounting Research Centre (AMARC) and National Productivity Corporation (NPC).

NAfMA 2011 is supported by the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry and SMI Association of Malaysia. Public Bank Berhad is the main sponsor for NAfMA while Bernama TV is the Official Media Partner. Malaysian Business is the Official Business Magazine and SME Malaysia is the Official SME publication. The Platinum sponsor is Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad and the Gold sponsors are Permodalan Nasional Berhad and Bank Muamalat. The Silver sponsors are Century Software Holdings Berhad and Maxis Berhad.
