Maxis Berhad emerged as the excellence award winner
of the national award for management accounting (NAfMA)
2010, beating five other companies. In the SME category,
Century Software (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd won the SME star award.
Dato' Daud Tahir, Malaysia's deputy secretary general,
presented the awards on behalf of YB Dato' Seri Ismail Sabri
Bin Yaakob, minister of domestic trade, cooperative and
consumerism, at a grand dinner ceremony at One World Hotel,
Petaling Jaya on 15 December 2010.
Malaysia Airlines
System Bhd won the best practice award in the public listed
category while Digi Communications Sdn Bhd won in the
non-listed category. The practice solution award was won by
Plus Expressways Bhd in the public listed category, The New
Straits Times Press in the non-listed category and TEX Cycle
Sdn Bhd in the SME category.
Certificates of merit
were also presented to two other companies for commendable
practices in management accounting. They were Malaysia
Airports Holdings Berhad and KPJ Seremban Specialist
Hospital Sdn Bhd.
The NAfMA awards recognise best
practices in management accounting by companies in Malaysia
that lead to value creation and excellent business
performance.
They also aim to promote the application
of management accounting techniques and systems within
organisations in Malaysia.
Yeo Tek Ling, chairman of
the NAfMA organising committee, said during his welcome
speech: ‘We are proud that NAfMA’s unique assessment
framework offers participating companies a chance to review
their operations and see the value of management accounting
tools and techniques.’
The NAfMA winners were
assessed on eight criteria: leadership, management
accounting information, resource management, customer /
market focus, partnership management, value creation,
business results and corporate social responsibility. These
eight criteria are based on the management accounting
concepts of the International Federation of Accountants
(IFAC).
The awarding bodies for NAfMA are Malaysian
Institute of Accountants (MIA) and CIMA’s (the Chartered
Institute of Management Accountants') Malaysia division.
The working partners are CIMA-UiTM’s Asian management
accounting research centre (AMARC) and the Malaysia
Productivity Corporation (MPC).
