
The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) President, Datuk Mohd Nasir
Ahmad paid a courtesy visit to the office of Director General of Inland Revenue
Board of Malaysia, YBhg Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Shukor Hj. Mahfar
The courtesy
visit happened on 8 June was part of the Institute's effort to strengthen ties
with all its key strategic stakeholders.
During the meet,
MIA President Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad updated Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Shukor Hj. Mahfar
who is also the chief executive officer of IRB on the latest development in the
accountancy profession as well as initiatives undertaken by MIA in developing
and advancing the profession further. In the 2 hours session, Datuk Mohd Nasir
also briefed the DG on some of the industry's feedback regarding the need for
more professional enhancements and creation of awareness to the public on the
roles played by tax practitioners in ensuring uniformity and adherence to the
laws regarding the taxation system.
MIA President also identified several
strategic efforts to be explored further by both MIA and IRB in enhancing
capacity building and excellence in the industry.
Both MIA and IRB
acknowledge the fact that the accountancy profession - involving accountants and
tax practitioners - has an important role to play in spearheading the nations'
effort to build credible, reputable and competitive business environment.
Towards this end, MIA has offered its expertise to collaborate with IRB the
areas of continuing professional developments programme and capacity building.
In facilitating this endeavour, MIA and IRB have indicated strong
commitments to work together in developing and sustaining professional quality
and expertise that can meet the most demanding global standards. Both
organisations are expected to form a strategic alliance as step to study and
implement strategic initiatives between the two organizations.
