27/06/2012

The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) received delegates from the Financial Services Regulation Coordinating Committee (FSRCC) of Nigeria on 27 June. The entourage was received by the MIA Vice President, Abdul Rahim Abdul Hamid, MIA Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ms Ho Foong Moi and other key MIA personnel.

During the visit, key personnel from MIA Corporate & International Affairs and Professional Standards and Practices MIA shared and discussed in depth on relevant matters and various challenges faced by MIA pertaining to the implementation of the Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (which mirrors the IFRS) since Malaysia converged on 1 January this year.

The FSRCC is an inter-agency body set up to deal with matters of common interest and concern to the various regulatory and supervisory authorities in the financial services of Nigeria. Members of the study group comprised officials from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Insurance Commission, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance, Ministry of Finance and other regulatory bodies of Nigeria.

From the meeting, members of the FSRCC have expressed their keenness to work closely with MIA in sharing knowledge and resources concerning matters and issues relevant to IFRS implementation.
