The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA)
today won the Human Resource Minister Award under
the Training Providers category for its exceptional
contribution and role in the human resources
development sector of Malaysia.
The Human
Resources Development Awards were issued by
Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Bhd to training providers
who had played significant roles in the human
resources development in the country. Last year MIA
took home the Certificate of Appreciation from PSMB
under the same category.
Incepted in 1993,
the PSMB Awards were initially introduced to
acknowledge and give recognition to big employers
only in the categories of manufacturing and
services. Over the years, they were expanded to give
recognition to small and medium sized employers in
these categories and also to training providers.
Since then, it has been an annual agenda by PSMB to
give recognition to employers in these categories
who have demonstrated excellence in human resources
development.
MIA President Datuk Mohd Nasir
Ahmad together with MIA Chief Executive Officer Haji
Rosli Abdullah were present to receive the award
from the Deputy Minister of Human Resource, Senator
Dato' Maznah Mazlan during the opening ceremony of
PSMB 2011 Conference, at Sunway Convention Centre,
Kuala Lumpur today.

MIA President, Datuk Mohd
Nasir Ahmad said that: "Winning this award only
strengthens MIA's resolve in it's commitment in
ensuring that our members are constantly developing
and enhancing their competencies through continuous
professional education and training. The Institute's
mission has always been to develop, support and
monitor quality and expertise which are consistent
with the most current global best practices in the
accountancy profession. As such, it is crucial for
our members to be "in top form" and not left behind
when in comes to knowledge and experience acquired
from the training extended to them,"
He
added that continuous professional resource
development through the latest innovations and
trainings relevant to their scope of service and
beyond is the added value offered by the Institute
training arm. This form of "enrichment" firms up the
level professionalism of our members and hence is
form of sustainable practice that creates public
confidence and trust.
Head of MIA
Professional Development Centre (MPDC), the training
arm of MIA, G. Shanmugam said that the recognition
was indeed a pleasant surprise for MIA to be
identified by the auspices of the Ministry of Human
Resources as a notable training provider for
professional resource development in Malaysia.
"In today's demanding and ever growing
borderless business environment, financial
professionals employed namely in commerce and
industries, public sectors, public practice and
academia are expected to equip with up-to-date
knowledge and professional skills so that they are
able to make sound business decisions not only for
the continues improvement of their organisations but
more so for our country as a whole. As a leading
provider of continuing professional education and
training especially for the accounting and finance
professionals, MIA constantly assists these
professionals with well researched knowledge and
skills programmes that are catered for strategic,
tactical as well operational levels," he added.
As a prolific professional development and
training providers, MIA will be hosting another
International event this year. Together with the
ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA), MIA is
organising the inaugural MIA International
Accountants Conference (MIA Conference) and the 17th
AFA Conference from 2-3 November at the Kuala Lumpur
Convention Centre. |
