International Relations The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) promotes the interests of the Malaysian accountancy profession internationally by actively engaging in dialogues and enhancing co-operation and collaboration with various accounting bodies at international and regional levels. Through its Corporate & International Affairs (CIAD), MIA closely monitor the global trends and developments affecting the local accountancy profession as well as the process of globalisation and liberalisation of trade in services at the multilateral, regional and bilateral levels. MIA continues to be involved in the various ongoing trade negotiations and strives to ensure that the position and interests of members and member firms are not compromised in the face of the external pressures arising from the liberalisation of trade in services. Additionally, MIA is also responsible in paving the path for getting MIA members to be globally recognized through Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) with other Professional Accounting bodies. Two MRAs are already in place with Ikatan Akuntan Indonesia (IAI) and CPA Australia with plans for more arrangements with other bodies. Aside from that, we play an active role in regional organisations such as the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA). In building good relations with our foreign counterparts, we host visits from professional accounting bodies as well as pay visits to other foreign professional bodies. These visits have resulted in close relationships being established, culminating in formalisation of these relationships through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with bodies like IAI and the Kampuchea Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Auditors (KICPAA). |
