Malaysian Institute of Accountants
The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) was
established in 1967 under the Accountants Act, 1967
(‘Act’) as the regulatory body of the accountancy
profession in Malaysia. Thus, it also represents the
voice of all accountants in the country. The
Institute also monitors local and international
accounting developments and consults regularly with
government and statutory bodies. MIA has over 22,000
members who are registered as Chartered Accountants,
Licensed Accountants and Associate Members.
In the international arena, MIA is a member of the
International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). It
supports the work of this body and adopts as far as
possible the IFAC pronouncements in Malaysia. MIA is
represented in the IFAC Board as well as in several
IFAC Committees. In the regional scene, MIA plays a
proactive role as a member of the Confederation of
Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) and the Asean
Federation of Accountants (AFA).

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants) is a leading professional management
accountancy body, which is recognised
internationally for the high professional and
technical standards of its members. As one of the
six chartered bodies of accountants in the UK, CIMA
is a constituent member of the Consultative
Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) and the
Accounting Standards Board.
CIMA also participates in the work of the
International Federation of Accountants,
International Accounting Standards Board and the
Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants. CIMA
members are employed in a wide range of
organisations in the industry, commerce and the
public sector worldwide. CIMA has over 158,000
members and students in over 161 countries and is
represented in Malaysia through the Malaysia
Divisional Office.
The CIMA qualification is internationally recognised,
with a focus on the training and qualifying of
“accountants in business”. CIMA prides itself on the
commercial relevance of its syllabus, which is in
tune with the activities of high performance
organisations, and evolves continually to reflect
the latest developments in global business. It is
committed to upholding the highest ethical and
professional standards of members and students, and
to maintaining public confidence in management
accountancy. |
